Advisory note / Seasonal relaunch

Build the market
before mobilising.

The recommendation connected the ability to generate paid forward demand with the decision to restart the operating cost base.

Paul LittlejohnAnonymised advisory example

The strategic question

A seasonal relaunch would bring the operating cost base back into the business. The owner needed a basis for judging that commitment and a way to build demand before mobilising the operation.

The advice

I recommended establishing paid forward bookings before committing the operating cost base.

That required a working way to take bookings and payments, supported by the sales channels needed to build demand. Those capabilities had to be in place for commercial activation to produce the paid forward bookings against which the restart could be judged.

01Enable paid bookings

Booking, payment and sales capabilities.

02Build forward demand

Commercial activation before mobilisation.

03Judge the restart

Paid demand against clear restart conditions.

The position it would create

The owner could build the market before mobilising, using paid demand to judge the commitment against clear restart conditions.

A functioning route to paid bookings gives the owner something tangible against which to make the operating commitment. The recommendation put the commercial capability and the timing of the cost base into the same strategic view.

The intended result was a working capability to build forward demand and a defined basis for judging the restart. That would give the owner greater command of when the operating costs entered the business.

Why these choices belong together

The booking system was part of the business’s ability to generate demand. The sales channels depended on that capability, and the operating commitment depended on what the commercial work could establish. Treating them together made the proposed relaunch a coherent set of choices.

This note describes the recommendation and the business position it was intended to create.
